The first time I picked up an impact driver, a 12-volt Makita, I thought it looked, to me, like a toy. I then tried it out by driving a 3-inch deck screw into a 4" x 4" piece of fir. I was amazed as I watched (and felt) the tiny machine effortlessly drive the screw home, sinking the head below the surface of the wood. I had to remember to keep a lot of hand pressure against the tool so that the screw driver bit did not pop out of the screw head and strip it. From that moment forward, I have never been without one of these amazing machines at my side.
Driving lag bolts is where these tools show off their strength. A cordless drill simply does not have the power to set long lags while not killing the batteries. You will still want to drill a pilot hole to prevent the wood from cracking, but luckily you already have the tool for that job, too...
The tool is powered by a hard-hitting Makita built motor and impact mechanism that delivers 531in/lbs of maximum torque and 0-3,000 impacts per minute (IPM). The tool comes with a variable speed mechanism (0-2,000 RPM) for a huge range of applications from auto and home repairs to professional installation. For enhanced comfort on the job, the driver also has a soft grip handle and a large, convenient paddle switch for easier operation. Additionally, the tool has an over 12in extension capacity providing the extra reach necessary to work in deep and tight spaces. Makita has also designed this power tool with a built-in LED light to illuminate work spaces to ensures operator precision. To maximize convenience Makita has also added belt clip mounts on either side of the tool, and a phosphorescent bumper ring, like a beacon, to help locate the tool in dark work areas. Makita's 18v angle impact driver utilizes the same Makita battery and charger technology as the BTD041 providing superior power and battery life.
